The New Inn is easy to find in the village of Huby which is in the Hambleton district of North Yorkshire, about nine and a half miles north of York and five miles south-east of Easingwold. We offer drinks at the bar, takeaway Cantonese food and restaurant dining.

As far as we have been able to find out, there has been a ‘New Inn’ in Huby since the 16th century. Which then makes you think, at what point does The New Inn become The Old Inn?… The simple answer is Never!Every landlord that has had anything to do with The New Inn, has done something to re-merit the name
‘New’, and that is certainly the case to the present.

The one original feature that has never changed since The New Inn first opened back in the sixteenth century, is the warmth of the welcome to all customers crossing the threshold… and it is our intention that this will carry on, long into the future.

Given the village setting and the Inn’s history, owners Mr Lin and his wife Sally, felt it appropriate to keep the name ‘The New Inn’ and rather than adding a “Lucky Dragon” or an “Emperor’s Pagoda” to give a Chinese feel, they kept the branding and logo subtle by adding some Chinese text instead. Whilst any Chinese person can read it, there is no direct translation into English, it is really a sentiment, hence the nearest translation would be, “A warm, welcoming, good food eating house”… However you phrase it, The New Inn is certainly living up to the Chinese expectations.

What does The New Inn offer?
The New Inn has retained its charm and warmth and is still a village hub for locals to chat over a drink or two in the bar. Throughout the evening, there is usually a steady flow of people popping in to pick-up takeaway Cantonese meals too. But the majority of customers, particularly from the surrounding villages, towns and the City of York, visit to eat in our restaurant.

This is a very comfortable and authentic Cantonese restaurant with a seating capacity of 60 and is open every evening from 4:30pm. It is suitable for an intimate meal for two, for family dining or for party bookings. The restaurant chefs use the freshest locally sourced ingredients to create the finest Cantonese cuisine imaginable. Such is the reputation that booking is advised, especially at weekends, in order to enjoy an unbeatable menu choice in the comfortable surroundings.
